9th Grade       

  • Develop your College GAMEplan goals and objectives worksheet
  • Review and understand the NCAA’s academic eligibility requirements
  • Participate on high school athletic teams – freshmen/JV or varsity
  • Participate in off school season programs and camps in your sport
  • Participate in high school extra-curricular activities, i.e. Student Council
  • Keep record of ALL academic and athletic achievements and statistics
  • Develop a resume including academic and athletic achievements
  • Create your first list of colleges that you may be interested in
  • Set academic goals that meet NCAA requirements
  • Meet with your College Guidance Counselor to review your program
  • Create a 4 year academic plan; begin a 4 year co-curricular program
  • Update your player profile/resume and send to coaches with an appropriate cover letter 
  • Visit college campuses while on Spring Break

10th Grade    

  • Participate on high school athletic teams – JV or varsity
  • Participate in off school season programs in your sport
  • Keep a record of ALL your academic and athletic achievements and statistics, and update your resume
  • Apply for a social security number if you don’t already have one – college applications will require it
  • Continue progressing toward completion of your academic courses as required by the NCAA.
  • Work to meet your best potential
  • Begin considering future careers you may be interested in
  • Work with your counselor to determine appropriate majors/courses to best prepare you for such careers
  • Take PSAT and PLAN
  • Evaluate your test scores and seek assistance in areas of weakness
  • Update your player profile/resume and send to coaches with an appropriate cover letter
  • Visit college campuses while on Spring Break

11th Grade      

  • Recognize that this is arguably the most important year of your high school career. 
  • Set your academic and athletic goals high this year.  Colleges often put a heavy emphasis on junior year grades
  • Continue with your best performance course work and ensure that it exceeds minimum NCAA requirements
  • Be prepared to put in extra study time
  • Participate on high school athletic teams – JV or varsity
  • Participate in off school season programs in your sport
  • Keep record of ALL academic and athletic achievements and statistics and update resume
  • Organize a filing system and a follow up plan to track colleges that respond to your inquiries
  • Begin researching colleges you have interest in.  Include academic standards, majors, athletics, social, size, location, etc.  Involve parents, counselors, coaches 
  • Make unofficial visits to the schools that interest you
  • Evaluate your PSAT results 
  • High PSAT scores might qualify you for National Merit Scholarships.  To qualify, you must have excellent grades, high SAT scores and a recommendation from your school
  • Register and prepare for ACT, SATs
  • Meet with college representatives as they visit your school
  • Meet with your counselor to create a testing plan and develop a list of colleges for your academic, athletic, and personal match
  • Meet with your coach for a realistic athletic evaluation – which college level should you target?
  • Ask coaches for assistance in the recruiting process
  • Send letters of interest and resumes to college coaches
  • Attend local College Fairs
  • Take class trips to local college campuses
  • Complete Common Application
  • Retake tests if scores are not where they need to be
  • Begin individual and family conferences with counselor to create a list of colleges to be researched by student
  • Update your player profile/resume and send to coaches with an appropriate cover letter
  • Visit college campuses while on Spring Break

12th Grade    

  • Participate on high school athletic teams
  • Participate in off school season programs in your sport
  • In off-season, keep up a fitness and strength and conditioning program
  • Keep record of ALL academic and athletic achievements and statistics and update your high school resume
  • Visit college campuses (coordinate with the admissions office and arrange to spend the night on campus) and update campus evaluation results
  • Begin to eliminate those colleges that don’t rank well on your evaluation list
  • Ensure that all NCAA eligibility required work will be met by the end of the school year
  • Avoid senioritis – keep grades up and even take some more challenging courses
  • Contact colleges to ask for applications
  • Complete and send all applications
  • Get teacher recommendations
  • Schedule, make, and track official and unofficial visits
  • Schedule individual conferences with counselor and confirm academic eligibility status
  • If you are considering an NCAA Division I or Division II school, make sure that you have completed and submitted the NCAA Clearinghouse form and had SAT/ACT test results submitted directly to Clearinghouse using "9999" code.
  • Research scholarships, write scholarship essays and confirm application deadline
  • Send scholarship applications
  • Schedule and retake any required SAT/ACTs and if applicable, take any advanced placement tests for which you qualify
  • Review FAFSA on-line, get familiar with its requirements, check for filing deadlines, and file if applicable
  • Stay on top of the process.  Monitor all required applications, deadline dates, required recommendations, etc.
  • Update your player profile/resume and send to coaches with an appropriate cover letter
  • Visit college campuses while on Spring Break
  • Review grades
  • Send testing
  • Deliberate / Wait
